Visiting His Holiness The Dalai Lama

Arriving in Dharamsala we heard we just came at the right time, His Holiness was going to teach for a few days in his temple! We got a pass and 'reserved' a seat. Though translated in English, the stories of the nice man were a bit difficult for us to follow. Luckily there was a review session for all the confused Westerners. The atmosphere in the temple was really nice and warm, though we had some trouble drinking the holy buttery milk drink they served. Vanes almost got enlightened and wanted to hug His Holiness, again mistaking him for her grandpa. More seriously, it was very special to be there and we we're lucky he was teaching about meditation, since we had just started a short course a few days before. Unluckily we couldn't take any pictures.

Dharamsala, or better McLeod Ganj and the village of Dharamkot, is a very friendly and relaxing place. It has a fascinating mix of Tibetan and Indian culture. The Tibetan refugees are even the majority. Many cultural events take place, which gives us the opportunity to learn more about the situation of Tibet, and talk to monks and refugees. We even saw a concert of a Tibetan protest singer!

Reserving a seat in the temple

We reserved a seat for Aymeric, but he never showed up...

And we got Krishna flute lessons!
